Your attention is not inventory.
ESI collects only the information needed to deliver the publication and understand whether the site works.
Emergent Synthetic Intelligence is an independent publication. This policy explains what information may be processed when you visit the site, subscribe by email, or use embedded media.
01 / INFORMATION
What ESI collects.
If you subscribe, ESI receives the email address you provide, your subscription status, and delivery or engagement information supplied by the newsletter service. Basic technical information—such as browser type, approximate region, referral source, and page performance—may be processed by the site host and embedded services for security and operation.
ESI does not ask for sensitive personal information through the newsletter form.
02 / USE
Why the information is used.
- To send essays, research updates, films, and occasional subscriber-only writing.
- To manage subscriptions, honor unsubscribe requests, and troubleshoot delivery.
- To protect the site, measure performance, and improve the reader experience.
ESI does not sell or rent subscriber email addresses. ESI does not use them for unrelated third-party advertising.
03 / SERVICES
Processors and embedded media.
Newsletter subscriptions are processed by Kit. Video and presentation pages may embed content from YouTube and Canva. Those services may receive technical data and apply their own privacy policies when their content loads or you interact with it. External links take you to sites ESI does not control.
The YouTube player on the homepage uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain and loads lazily.
04 / CHOICES
Your control.
You can unsubscribe using the link included in every newsletter. To request access, correction, or deletion of subscription information, reply to any ESI newsletter using the address shown there. ESI will verify the request before changing subscriber data.
Browser settings and content blockers may limit cookies or embedded media. Blocking an embed should not prevent access to ESI’s written content.
05 / RETENTION
Retention and changes.
Subscription records are kept while you remain subscribed and as reasonably needed for delivery records, security, legal obligations, or suppression of mail after you opt out. This policy may change when ESI’s tools or practices change; material updates will receive a new effective date.
This policy describes the current ESI site and newsletter workflow. A public privacy-contact address can replace the newsletter reply method when ESI establishes one.
